From Press Release
For the fifth-straight year, the Stevenson men’s lacrosse team will host the Meghan Puls Lacrosse Classic to help raise funds for the Meghan Puls Foundation. This year’s event will take place on Sunday, October 18 beginning at 10:00 a.m.
The 2015 classic will feature six teams, including Stevenson, Cabrini, Franklin & Marshall, Goucher, Virginia Wesleyan and Division II Adelphi.
Stevenson won its third-straight Commonwealth Conference title last season and advanced to its seventh-straight NCAA Tournament, becoming just one of seven teams who have participated in every NCAA tournament since 2009.
Cabrini won its 15th-straight Colonial States Athletic Conference championship last season, falling in the first round of the NCAA Division III Men’s Lacrosse Championship. Over the last five years, the Cavaliers have posted 75 wins, five conference championships and five NCAA tournament victories.
Franklin & Marshall finished the year 7-9 last season, missing the conference tournament for the first time in three seasons by one game. In 2013, the Diplomats advanced to their first-ever Centennial Conference championship game, returning there once again in 2014.
Goucher finished last season with a 7-7 mark and missed the Landmark Conference tournament for the first time since joining the league in 2008. Since 2010, the Gophers have posted a 65-35 record while winning two conference titles and making two appearances in the NCAA Division III Men’s Lacrosse Championship.
Virginia Wesleyan posted a 10-6 record a year ago, advancing to the ODAC Men’s Lacrosse Championship semifinals. The Marlins have compiled a 46-35 record since 2011 and have advanced to the ODAC semifinals twice.
Adelphi won its second-straight Notheast-10 title, falling in the NCAA Division II Men’s Lacrosse First Round. Since 2011, the Panthers have posted a 75-14 record and have advanced to four NCAA Tournaments, including advancing to the 2011 national championship game at M&T Bank Stadium in Baltimore.
The mission of the foundation is to keep the memory of Meghan Puls, daughter of Stevenson assistant men’s lacrosse coach Tim and assistant women’s basketball coach Cassie, alive by helping families and children through supporting organizations in the areas of health services and research, youth recreation and education.
Proceeds from the fundraiser benefit the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center and Lions Camp Merrick diabetes camp. Other beneficiaries include The Seton Keough High School Scholarship, Marillac and Focus programs.
Admission is FREE, but a suggested donation of $5 is encouraged.
Since its inception in 2011, the Meghan Puls Lacrosse Classic has featured Stevenson, Adelphi, Cabrini, Elizabethtown, Franklin & Marshall, Goucher, Stevens and Virginia Wesleyan.
