From Press Release
Major League Lacrosse, the premier professional outdoor lacrosse league, announced Week 12’s Warrior Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week and the Cascade Rookie of the Week today.
This week, Jordan Wolf (Lower Merion) earned offensive honors for his five goal performance, helping the Rochester Rattlers defeat the Charlotte Hounds 13-9 and earn a spot in the playoffs. Chesapeake goaltender Tyler Fiorito and the Bayhawks gave the New York Lizards a run for their money, ultimately defeating them in a close match of 12-11, earning himself defensive honors. Rookie attackman Kieran McArdle contributed immensely to Florida’s 23-17 victory over Boston, adding five of his own to the Launch’s goal total to earn the first year’s award.
Wolf is no stranger to League-wide honors, having earned the Cascade Rookie of the Week twice already this season. This award, however, proves that he can not only stand atop the MLL’s first year class, but just atop the MLL in general. Notching a total of seven points (5 goals, 2 assists) in Rochester’s hosting of the Hounds, Wolf earned the most goals out of any other player on either roster.
Fiorito, who has been filling in for Bayhawks’ regular goaltender Kip Turner, has done what he can to help keep the struggling 2013 Steinfeld Trophy championship team on its feet for the six games he’s played, and in no other match were his efforts more apparent than last weekend’s. Although Chesapeake has officially been eliminated from playoff spot contention, Fiorito and the Bayhawks played a solid game decorated with spectacular saves, eventually putting a stop to the Lizards’ four-game winning streak.
First year McArdle danced around a Boston defense so deftly that he earned 10 points (five goals, five assists), as part of a second quarter offensive surge that dominated the visiting Cannons. His outstanding performance was good enough tie the All-Time goals by a rookie record, with Kevin HUntley who broke it in 2008 with the LA Riptide
Fiorito and the Bayhawks will host the Denver Outlaws for the first game of Week 13 this coming Thursday, at 7:30 p.m. on CBS Sports Network. McArdle will look to continue his offensive barrage against the Cannons for the second of a home-and-home series in Boston. The matinee game will take place at 3:00 p.m. (ET) on Saturday, and will be broadcast on ESPN3.com and syndicated channels. Wolf and the Rattlers will host the Ohio Machine, who are looking for entry into the playoffs at 7:00 p.m. (ET) on YouTube.com.
