The Widener men’s lacrosse team put up a seven spot in the first quarter and dominated throughout for a convincing 15-6 victory over Immaculata at Leslie C. Quick Jr. Stadium.
The Pride exploded to a 4-0 lead in the first 5 1/2 minutes and continued the pressure through the remainder of the period for a 7-2 cushion. Freshman Chris Sanchez (Flanders, NJ) scored twice in the quarter with sophomore Kyle Gratz adding a goal and an assist.
The second quarter produced five goals and a 17-2 shots edge, making it a 28-9 shots advantage in the first half. Sophomore Tim Taylor (Archbishop Ryan) had a goal and an assist in the period for Widener, which ended the half with a 12-3 lead.
Taylor and Gratz each closed with two goals and two assists, Gratz and freshmen Vince Marra (Springfield-Delco) and Tyler Schulte (Seneca) each netted two with senior Robert Clemens (Sun Valley) dishing two assists for the Pride. Sophomores Anthony Cipriano (Kendall Park, NJ), Matt Natale (Pottsgrove), Fred Hew and Bryan Shields (Nazareth) along with Marc Feldman (Emmaus) also scored.
Senior All-America Mac Nestler made four saves over 41 minutes and sophomore Richard Carrier won 14-of-17 face-offs for Widener (2-3).
Rocco Piliero (Downingtown East) and Doug Hughes (Bayard Rustin) each scored two goals to lead the Mighty Macs while Michael Thompson (Bishop Shanahan) and Ben Lerario (Archbishop Carroll) added one goal apiece to account for Immaculata’s scoring.
Arcadia 15, Rosemont 5
The Knights (3-2) cruised to a non-conference win at Rosemont (1-4)
Arcadia got out to a slow start as Rosemont built a 3-1 first quarter lead, which featured a pair of goals from freshman Rasool Smith (Lower Merion) and one from junior Justin Regan. Sophomore Austin Morris brought the Knights back within one with 1:08 to go in the opening frame, which started a five-goal surge that gave Arcadia the lead for good.
Freshman John Caruso (Cinnaminson) tied the game 1:35 into the second quarter, and sophomore James Galassi gave Arcadia the lead three minutes later. Freshman James Boland then netted back-to-back goals in just over two minutes, including the eventual game-winner, to cap the run.
The Knights scored all four third quarter goals and outscored the Ravens 9-1 in the second half to secure the win.
Boland had three goals and three assists while winning 13-of-19 faceoffs to lead Arcadia, while Caruso also netted three goals and added one assist. Galassi, sophomore Ryan Griffo and Morris finished with two goals each. Freshman Jordan Culichia allowed four goals and had two saves in 53.18 to even his record at 2-2 for the season, while classmate Ryan O’Leary (Allentown, NJ)) had one save and one goal against in the final 6:42.
Regan and Smith had two goals each for the Ravens, while sophomore Brody Safranek (Douglasville, Pa.) allowed all 15 goals while making 17 saves in net.
