From Press Release
Dylan Sheridan, who helped Denver to three Final Four appearances in four years on the staff, has been named to the staff of the Princeton men’s lacrosse team, head coach Chris Bates announced.
Sheridan will serve as defensive coordinator and recruiting coordinator for the Tigers, and he will work with the face-off men as well. He replaces John Walker, who had to leave the program last week due to chronic back problems.
“We are very pleased to have Dylan join us,” says Princeton coach Chris Bates. “I have kept tabs on, and certainly been impressed with, his career to date. Coach Sheridan has risen up the coaching ranks quickly, and he will bring great energy and knowledge to us as a defensive coordinator. We are all excited to get going with him here and start our fall work.”
Sheridan worked with former Princeton head coach Bill Tierney in Denver, working first with the face-off specialists and then becoming defensive coordinator there. Denver advanced to the Final Four in 2011, 2013 and 2014.
The 2014 Pioneers had the top-ranked defense in the Big East and the 10th-ranked defense in Division I, allowing 8.47 goals per game.
He also was the recruiting coordinator at Denver as well.
“I look forward to the tremendous privilege of coaching the student-athletes at Princeton,” Sheridan said. “I am eager and excited to get started with Coach Bates and the team and begin a new chapter in my career. Of course, I would be remiss not to thank Coach Tierney, Coach [Matt] Brown and the entire DU community for everything they’ve done for me as well as the tremendous group of young men I’ve been blessed to work with these last four years at the University of Denver.”
Sheridan is a 2006 graduate of Claremont McKenna College in California, where he was a member of the club lacrosse team, serving as team captain three times. He also earned MCLA All-America honors three times and was a three-time All-West Coast Lacrosse League selection. He was also the WCLL Player of the Year his senior year.
In addition to lacrosse, Sheridan was also a four-year member of the football team at Claremont McKenna. He is also a graduate of the prestigious Western Reserve Academy in Ohio, where he helped the team to three Ohio high school state champioship games, winning one.
He began his coaching career at Division II Pfeiffer and also coached at Division III Lebanon Valley. He moved to Denver as the volunteer assistant in 2011 before moving up to second assistant and then defensive coordinator.
In addition to his work at Denver, he was also the head coach of the national team from Thailand at the 2014 World Championships. He has also been a very active member of the club lacrosse community in Denver.
“We are sad to see him leave Denver, as he has made so many contributions to our program on the field with our defense and face-off game, with recruiting three straight amazing classes, and developing great relationships with our young men,” Tierney said. “On the other hand, we are thrilled for him to be going to Princeton University, which has such a great lacrosse tradition and world-renowned academic reputation. His ability as a young, rising superstar in the lacrosse coaching profession cannot be easily measured. He directed our defense to great success, reinvented our face-off corps and has quickly become one of the best recruiters in the game. He will undoubtedly help Chris Bates and the rest of the Princeton staff achieve all of their goals.”
