From Press Release
With two games remaining in the season, the Philadelphia Wings of the National Lacrosse League (NLL) look to close on a positive note as they travel west to take on the Vancouver Stealth at the Langley Event Centre tonight at 10 p.m. The away game is Philadelphia’s longest journey of the season, amounting to nearly 6,000 miles round-trip.
This is the final matchup between Philadelphia and Vancouver in the 2014 regular season. The Wings own a 10-5 overall series lead against the Stealth. In their last meeting, Philadelphia won at home, 15-9. Wings Forward Jordan Hall led all runners with eight points, while teammate Kyle Buchanan led all scorers with four goals.
“It’s disappointing about the Wings not making the playoffs,” said Assistant Coach Jim Milligan. “We need to stay motivated and push for closing the season strong. It’s interesting that we face both Vancouver and Colorado for our last two games, as they are battling each other for the final playoff spot in the NLL West [division].”
Forward Kevin Crowley leads the Wings in goals (30) and is second in points (65) this season. He is tied for eleventh in the NLL in goals scored. Forward Kyle Buchanan makes his first trip back to Vancouver as a member of the opposing squad. Defensive standout Brett Manney also takes on his former squad, where he was a member of the 2010 Championship team.
“It’s an empty feeling of not making the playoffs, but we still have a season to complete,” said Wings Forward Kyle Buchanan. “We have to prepare like we need to for each game and stay alert mentally.”
Vancouver (4-11) is currently fourth in the NLL West Division. They remain in contention for the final playoff spot from the NLL West. In their scenario, they must win and have the Colorado Mammoth lose to keep pace for the playoffs. Forward Rhys Duch leads the team in all offensive categories (34 goals, 37 assists, 71 points).
Philadelphia hosts the Colorado Mammoth for their regular season finale and Fan Appreciation Night on Saturday, April 26 at 7:30 p.m. at Wells Fargo Center. All fans in attendance receive a team poster giveaway and have the chance to collect postgame autographs from all members of the team.
