From Press Release
Continuing their losing skid, the Philadelphia Wings of the National Lacrosse League (NLL) were handed their seventh loss of the season by the Minnesota Swarm today at the Wells Fargo Center.
The Wings remain with just one victory at home this year after a hard-fought 15-14 loss against the Minnesota Swarm on Sunday. Philadelphia’s record now stands at 3-7.
“It’s a tough loss for us,” said Wings Head Coach Blane Harrison. “The Swarm had five goals on the power play compared to our two. That’s the difference in the game. They swapped goalies after our big first half and it seemed to change their momentum.”
Forwards Jordan Hall and Kevin Crowley provided the much needed surge for the Wings offense to open with their highest scoring first quarter since 2008. Philadelphia tallied seven goals and led 7-3 over Minnesota. Hall scored two goals and Crowley added a score and four assists.
Philadelphia carried their momentum through the first half. The Wings held a 9-6 lead over the Swarm at halftime. Forward Pat Saunders recorded a hat trick through 2 quarters, his fourth multi-goal game and second hat trick this season.
Minnesota cut the Philadelphia lead to two goals, winning the third frame against the Wings. The Swarm outscored the Wings 4-3 in the third quarter. Philadelphia led 12-10 entering the final quarter.
The fourth quarter opened in favor of the Swarm as Minnesota carried a 7-0 scoring run. Swarm Forward Logan Schuss went on a tear, recording four goals in the second half. Minnesota gained their first lead of the game early in the fourth quarter. The Swarm held on to secure their second win of the year and clinch the season series against Philadelphia 2-1.
Forwards Crowley, Hall and Saunders were the positives in a tough defeat. Crowley notched 10 points (eight assists, two goals) while Hall and Saunders each tallied a hat trick.
Following Sunday’s contest against Minnesota, the Wings have a bye week during Week 10 and will resume play on Saturday, March 8 at 7:30 p.m. when they visit the Rochester Knighthawks. Philadelphia makes their way back to the Wells Fargo Center on Sunday, March 16 at 4 p.m. to take on the Knighthawks.
