Philly All-Stars win U11A title at Philly Showdown; gear for competition in World Lacrosse Festival

The Philly All-Stars, a select team comprised of players from all over Southeastern PA, went 6-0 and took home the U11A title at this weekend’s Philly Showdown in Chestnut Hill.

This year’s field was very competitive and the Philly All-Stars played very well despite missing several key players.

During pool play, the All-Stars outlasted Cougar Elite 10-4, Stars & Stripes Blue 10-4, BBL 2021 9-4 and Mesa/Fever 2021 Orange 9-6.

In the semi finals, they once again faced the BBL 2021 squad and came away with a 9-3 victory which earned them a spot in the championship game.

They were matched up against the Mesa/Fever 2021 Orange in the final U11A game of the game and came away with a 10-7 victory and the 2014 Philly Showdown U11A title.

The Philly All-Stars were assembled in the spring of 2013 with the intention of playing in the World Lacrosse Festival in Denver from July 10th-12th. There was an open tryout for any player that would be U11 eligible this summer that resides in the greater Philadelphia region. Over 80 players competed for the 26 roster spots during a 2-day evaluation period.

The Philly Showdown was their final warm-up before heading to Denver. There will be over 30 U11 teams from all over the country competing in this event, which is being played in conjunction with the FIL World Lacrosse Championships, where 38 different countries will be battling for the World Title.

The team is coached by Tom Hannum, Damien Ramondo, John Begier and Mike Murphy.
