Germantown Friends School senior Ava Schwemler signed to play Division I Lacrosse for the University of Vermont at a ceremony on Tuesday, November 18, at the Friends Free Library.
The three-year Varsity starter signed a Letter of Intent, was surrounded by family, friends, teammates, teachers and coaches.
“I so am proud that Ava went after her dream to play at the highest level and has attained her goal,” said GFS Director of Athletics and head lacrosse coach Katie Bergstrom Mark.
Schwemler has traveled the country playing in some of the most competitive lacrosse tournaments and spends her off-seasons training. Last season, the Friends Schools League named her First Team All-League by. She is a leader on attack for the GFS team, and, in her three years on the varsity squad, has helped the Tigers win the FSL championship and make it to the state semifinals.
“Ava has impressive stats,” said Bergstrom Mark, “but those don’t show the intangibles—the spunk, hustle and heart with which Ava competes.”
