Ben Hiltebeitel log:

Ben Hiltebeitel

High School: Owen J Roberts High School

Graduation Year: 2015

Position: Midfield

College Choice: York College of Pennsylvania

Club Affiliation: Mesa Fresh 2015, #23

Lacrosse Honors: Philly Fab 40, All-Star Top 205, All-Star Southern States Elite, MVP UMD Lacrosse Camp, Penn Star

Academic Honors: National Honor Society

What will you major in/study? Engineering Management

Why did you choose York? “The foundation of Coach (Brandon) Childs philosophy is to recruit players who are not only great on the field, but also in the classroom so that each person will push each other to be greater. They had the best season ever for York College this past year so his philosophy is already beginning to pay off. The school offers a program that combines engineering with business management which I believe will be very marketable when I am ready to look for a job.”

Thoughts on this past season/outlook for next season? “We had a good season this past year, but since we did not bring the PAC-10 Championship back to OJR that was a big disappointment. Fortunately, next year we have many players returning who already have contributed at the varsity level and we will work hard to get past our mental mistakes to put us into contention for another shot to win the Championship.

“We also need to set a higher goal of going further in the District playoffs. This past season showed us that we can compete at that level and we need to believe in ourselves to make it happen.”

Additional Comments: “In 2010 when I was given the opportunity to tryout for the Penn Star team and then made the team it opened the door to playing for Mesa Fresh 2015.

“My family and I had no idea the possibility existed to play at that level and then meet so many college coaches. Coaches Peter Rohr, Brad Ament and Mark Aitken provided guidance not only on the field, but advice to help each of us become a better person. I am so grateful to be coached by men of that caliber and to have had such great teammates.

“The Mesa name always brought college coaches to our field which gave me so many opportunities to consider. Once I decided I wanted a D III college experience, I narrowed the choices down to York or Washington College. The hardest part of making my decision was calling Coaches Shirk and Miller to tell them I chose York. Getting to know them was a privilege and their program is one to be envied.

“I am really excited to join the program that Coach Childs is building at York and to work towards the goal of winning a national championship. Coaches Childs, Hoffmeister and Cassidy have created a brotherhood within their team atmosphere and I can’t wait to be part of it.

“I also want to thank my parents for all the time they invested and the money they spent so I could participate in lacrosse events and visit so many schools. Their guidance through this process helped me weigh every aspect of this decision so that I could find the best fit for me.”

Other schools considered: UMBC, University of Tampa, Washington College, Salisbury, Cortland, Monmouth
