From Press Release
As he prepares for his third season on the Mercer sidelines, Mercer head men’s lacrosse coach Kyle Hannan is more confident than ever thanks to an influx of leadership and championship pedigree brought in by his newest 15-member recruiting class.
“Our coaching staff is excited to welcome this fine class of 15 student-athletes to the program,” Hannan said. “These freshmen bring a culture of winning and leadership to our team.”
In his second year of recruiting at Mercer, Hannan emphasized targeting student-athletes of character as he continues to build the foundation of his program. Eleven of his new players served as captain of their high school teams, while the group amassed a total of 169 wins and five State Championships just last season.
All 15 players come to Mercer out of high school with four years of collegiate eligibility. The class features seven midfielders, four attackers, three defenders and a goalie.
“The class of 2019 adds athleticism and lacrosse IQ to our team,” Hannan continued. “Many of these players will have an immediate impact on our program’s success.”
Hannan and his staff look to build of last year’s landmark season that saw the Bears capture a share of the Atlantic Sun regular season championship in their first season of conference affiliation. Six starters from the team that finished 7-7 (4-1 A-Sun) are back in 2015.
Mercer has shown steady improvement each season since Hannan took over the program in 2012. After inheriting a team that had collected just two wins in its first two years, Hannan has already guided the team to 11 victories his first two season on the sidelines.
