Four senior members – two from Philly – of the 2015 University of North Carolina men’s lacrosse team have been elected as team captains.
Senior attackman Joey Sankey (Warminster, Pa., Penn Charter), senior attackman Jimmy Bitter (Stowe, Vt.), senior defenseman Jake Bailey (Fairport, N.Y.) and senior long-stick defensive midfielder Ryan Kilpatrick (West Chester, Pa., Salesianum School) were elected by their teammates as leaders of Carolina’s 2015 team.
The team choices for captains for announced at the team’s annual banquet held Friday night at the Loudermilk Center on campus.
Sankey and Bitter are four-year starters in the attack unit for Carolina. Both were named All-ACC in 2014 as well as being named to the U.S. Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association All-America squad. Sankey was named the offensive MVP of the 2014 Tar Heel team after leading the team in scoring with 57 points on 33 goals and 24 assists. Bitter scored 30 goals last year and was the team’s second-leading scorer with 37 points.
Bailey started all 15 games on close defense in 2014. He won the team’s Dick Baddour Academic Success Award for having the team’s highest grade point average and was the winner of the Kevin Reichardt Memorial Award as UNC’s most improved player.
Kilpatrick has been the leader of Carolina’s long-stick defensive midfield unit for the past four years. He played in all 15 games last year and had 23 ground balls and 11 caused turnovers.

Team MVP – Ryan Creighton (Malvern Prep)
Offensive MVP – Joey Sankey (Penn Charter)
Freshman Player of the Year – Austin Pifani (Abington)
And named 2015 Team Captains – Joey Sankey / Ryan Kilpatrick (Salesianum)
