Joey Sankey (Penn Charter) had a goal and two assists and visiting North Carolina scored the game’s final three goals as the Tar Heels toppled Princeton, 13-11 tonight.
Chad Tutton tallied the game-winner with 3:50 left to lift UNC (4-1) before 1,717 at Sherrerd Field at Class of 1952 Stadium.
The tight game was consistent of Princeton-North Carolina games, eight of which have been 1-goal games in the past 16 contests.
TURNING POINT OF THE GAME
The score was 11-10 Princeton after Tom Schreiber scored his third of the night, to go along with two assists, early in the fourth quarter. Twice after that Princeton had stops on North Carolina – including one sequence
where Matt O’Connor robbed both Austin Pifani (Abington, 3 GB) and Jimmy Bitter – but both times North Carolina took advantage of Princeton turnovers to get an extra possession and score. Shane Simpson tied it with 10:09 left, and then Tutton put the Tar Heels up 12-11 with 3:50 to go.
THE END GAME
Burke made five saves in the game, none bigger than the one on Ryan Ambler (Abington) as he drove to the crease with 1:42 to play. UNC cleared the ball and called timeout with 1:29 left, and by the time Princeton touched the ball again, the Tar Heels had killed all but 13 seconds and Bitter had scored in a basically open net. Princeton won the face-off and Hunter deButts took a shot with four seconds left that Burke made another save on.

PLAYER OF THE GAME
Tom Schreiber had three goals and three assists and Mike MacDonald had a goal and a career-high four assists, which are easy stats to see. Derick Raabe, though, had a great game, with two caused turnovers and six ground
balls, which helped Princeton to be nearly even in face-offs and helped hold the nation’s top-ranked scoring offense four goals below its average.
PLAY OF THE GAME
Mike MacDonald’s goal from Tom Schreiber in the third quarter came off a rocket pass from Schreiber that went about 30 yards.
IN THE GOAL
After splitting time in the first three games, Matt O’Connor played the entire game in goal for Princeton. O’Connor made 12 saves, tying his career high. His best play was when he dove to the end line to retain possession
for Princeton after a fourth-quarter save.
