The Cabrini men’s lacrosse team extended its Colonial States Athletic Conference win streak to 100 games with today’s 25-4 win at Rosemont College. With the victory, the No. 5 Cavaliers improve to 12-1 overall and 4-0 in the CSAC.

The Blue and White moved to within two regular season conference wins of the NCAA record of 102, currently held by Salisbury University. Cabrini’s streak runs back to a 19-5 victory over Eastern University during the 2001 season.

Juniors Damian Sobieski (Avon Grove) and Mike Leyden (Haverford High) led the Cavaliers with career highs of eight and seven points, respectively. Sobieski matched career bests with five goals and three assists, becoming the ninth Cavalier to surpass 100 career goals. Leyden paired two goals with a career high five assists.

Senior Corey Elmer moved into fourth place on the program’s all-time scoring list with five goals and an assist, giving him 231 for his career. Fellow senior Joey Shallow (Lower Merion) added four goals and an assist, while junior Anthony DiSanzo tallied three goals. Also among the goal scorers were freshmen Pat Regan and Jacob Bauman, who tallied their first career goals.

Junior faceoff specialist Anthony DiNenno (Avon Grove) won 16 of his 20 chances at the faceoff X and scooped a game-high 10 ground balls, while seven other players accounted for three ground balls each. Thirteen Cavaliers forced at least one Rosemont turnover, led by Elmer’s career high three caused turnovers.

All three of Cabrini’s goaltenders saw significant action and recorded at least one save, led by freshman Hank Altschuler (Lower Merion) who earned the victory with two saves.

The Cavaliers wasted little time taking control of the game. Sobieski’s first goal came in the game’s first minute, and within the fame’s first seven minutes, the junior had tallied four goals to give Cabrini a 5-1 lead. The Blue and White led 8-2 after the opening 15 minutes, a lead that swelled to 19-3 by halftime.

The Blue and White will Gwynedd Mercy University (8-3, 4-0 CSAC) on Thursday in a battle for first place in the CSAC. Game time is scheduled for 4:00 p.m.
