From Press Release
After being named an All-American each of the last two seasons, Lehigh men’s lacrosse senior Ty Souders (Emmaus) was selected in the third round (22nd overall) by the Denver Outlaws in the 2014 Major League Lacrosse Collegiate Draft on Friday. Souders becomes the highest draft pick in school history, bettering three Mountain Hawks who were selected last year.
Dante Fantoni was previously Lehigh’s highest draft pick. He went 39th overall last January, also to Denver. Noah Molnar was selected 45th by Rochester and David DiMaria 46th by Boston.

Leading the way at close defense, Souders has helped transform Lehigh into one of the nation’s best defensive units. A local product out of Emmaus High School, Souders owns 95 career groundballs and 42 caused turnovers, earning All-America recognition each of the last two seasons along with First then Second Team All-Patriot League honors, respectively.
Souders was named team captain for 2014 and a second team preseason All-American in the Inside Lacrosse Face-Off Yearbook. The Mountain Hawks’ defense finished in the top five nationally in 2012 and 2013 and was predicted as the #3 unit for 2014 by Inside Lacrosse.
Souders’ selection continues an upward trend of Mountain Hawks in Major League Lacrosse. DiMaria and Mike Noone were recently selected by Rochester and Charlotte in the supplemental draft. Ryan Snyder signed with Denver midway through last season. Both Cameron and Roman Lao-Gosney saw significant time with the Hamilton Nationals last season, leading them to Championship Weekend. The Nationals won’t compete in 2014, but the Lao-Gosneys will play for Major League Lacrosse’s newest team, the Florida Launch.
The 2014 Mountain Hawks began their preseason on Friday and will hit the practice field for the first time on Saturday as they prepare for their season opener at Furman on Feb. 1.
