VERO BEACH, Fla. – Harriton was able to put a tough two-game stretch into perspective.

The Rams suffered their second straight loss tonight, 16-10, to host Vero Beach, ending a somewhat disappointing Southern trip that also featured an 18-8 loss to No. 1 McDonogh School (MD) on Friday.

But the Rams looked at the games as learning experiences and a springboard to a season of hope as they open defense of their Central League, District 1 and PIAA championships.

Harriton got three goals each from Allison Ladda and Katie Melvin. Sabrina Tabasso and Jane Henderson each scored twice.

“I think for our first few games, we came out really hard and did really well,” said Ladda. “We definitely made some improvements.”

“These were our first two games of the season so these will put it in perspective for the rest of the year,” added Tabasso. “Hopefully, we’ll come out and kill it in our league. We just need to make some adjustments. It’s such an honor to be invited down here to play against these teams.”

The Fighting Indians finished a grueling stretch of three games in four days against nationally-ranked teams. The only loss was a very respectable 12-8 defeat to No. 1 McDonogh School (MD), which has a mere 94 straight wins.

Vero Beach also downed No. 17 Georgetown Visitation (16-15) and No. 15 St. Paul’s School (MD), 11-6.

Zan Biedenharn led the Fighting Indians with five goals and Abby Shields added three. But depth and balance was a key for Vero Beach.

“We went 3 for 4 and had such a blast,” said Preston Cooper, who added two goals. “They were some tough games, but I think we played really well as a team and the rest of the season should be full of great results.”

“We had a lot of fun and it was such an honor to have played these teams,” added Vero Beach goalie Allison McDonough. “They’re all great games that we look forward to every year.”
