Alex Wagner had three goals and three assists and Sam Montgomery added three goals and an assist as undefeated Bishop Shanahan toppled Great Valley, 11-5, today in Ches-Mont League boys’ lacrosse.
The Eagles, ranked No. 5 by Phillylacrosse.com, improved to 5-0 overall and 3-0 in the Ches-Mont. The 15th-ranked Patriots (6-2) fell to 2-2 in the league.
“We have been playing really well, but coach (Jon Heisman) has been telling us to stay humble,” Montgomery said. “We don’t want to get to cocky, but this is a good win.”
After falling behind, 1-0, the Eagles led, 4-2, after one period and 7-3 by halftime. Dylan Alderman added two goals and two assists and John Mehok added a goal and two assists.
Heisman said the performance was not his team’s best, but it was efficient.
“There will be a day when not everything works and that was today,” said Heisman. “But they found a way. We are lucky to have the senior leadership that we do.”
Bishop Shanahan outshot Great Valley, 23-11, and had 20 of the game’s 29 groundballs. Jason Yoquinto made seven saves for Bishop Shanahan.
Greg Merrill had two goals to lead Great Valley and goalies Braxton Borine (4) and Scott McAneney (8) combined for 12 saves for Great Valley.
“The motto for our team is Charlie Mike, Continue Mission, it is from the Navy seals when things are off,” said Patriots coach Tony Verna. “We have to continue our mission and we have the opportunity to play this game where a lot of people don’t.”
