This past weekend the Freedom 2022 team won its third tournament of the summer at The Hershey Laxfest by defeating Ground Control (MD), 7-2 in the final.
Freedom started very strong on Saturday with wins over the Long Island Tomahawks from Port Jefferson, NY, Vestal United from Upstate NY, and then Blue Mountain LC from the Elizabethtown, PA area.
During Saturday’s action the team was led by both their defense, which only gave up 6 goals total in those three games, and also its offense which averaged close to 13 goals per game. Sunday morning yielded one more “pool play” game with a strong Team Long Island squad which Freedom defeated 10-2.
Going into the playoffs as the #1 seed the Freedom boys received a bye to the semifinals where its was again matched up with Blue Mountain LC. Blue Mountain came out with a different game plan trying to eliminate the high scoring offense of Freedom. As some players were shut off, others stepped up and the scoring continued as six different players scored to seal the win and send Freedom to the Championship.
In the Championship the team was matched up with the #2 seed Ground Control out of Baltimore. The Ground Control team played a far more physical game than the Freedom boys had seen throughout the earlier games and came out ready to go. Despite the size and physicality the Freedom boys came out on top against a strong Ground Control team by the 7-2 score.
Over the entire weekend the Freedom boys’ defense was exceptional and only gave up 12 goals in 6 games. In goal and close defense they were led Bear Evans, Will Cody, Liam Blakely, Connor Jung, Connor Udevich, Ryan Matour, & Wyatt Baar. Offensively the team scored 50+ goals and was exceptional in their ball movement. They were led by Bryson Kolinsky, Jamie Smith, Max Busenkell, Casey Lamey, Griffin McGovern, Wyatt Baar, Will Cody, Joey Halloran, Michael Straub, Daniel Siaton, Brady Mitchell, & Braeden Lange. Congrats to the team!
