The U.S. Women’s National Team, winner of a record six world cup titles, begins its quest to defend the Federation of International Lacrosse (FIL) World Cup gold medal Thursday in Oshawa, Canada.
After claiming gold with an 8-7 victory over Australia at the 2009 FIL World Cup in Prague, Czech Republic, the U.S. Women’s National Team looks to bring home a seventh gold medal in the 19-team tournament, which concludes with the July 20 gold medal game. Led by head coach Ricky Fried (Georgetown) and captained by returning All-World attacker Lindsey Munday (Mountain Lakes, N.J./Northwestern), one of ten returners from the 2009 gold medal squad, Team USA begins pool play Thursday against England.
