Syracuse’s Tumolo (Clearview Regional) out for year, but Philly women lead Orange

Junior Alyssa Murray and freshman Kayla Treanor recorded five points each and three Philly grads played key roles Friday to lead No. 5/5 Syracuse team to an 11-8 victory against No. 7/7 Notre Dame in the Carrier Dome in the team’s first game with injured star Michelle Tumolo (Clearview Regional, NJ). \

The win was the sixth straight for the Orange and its 18th consecutive in BIG EAST regular-season play.

Tumolo suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in her left knee in the Orange’s victory against Cornell on Tuesday. The injury will require surgery and cause her to miss the rest of the year.

Tumolo is second on the team in scoring this season with 46 points on 22 goals and a team-high 24 assists. She ranks third on Syracuse’s all-time scoring list with 278 points and second on the career assists list with 136. Tumolo was a finalist for the Tewaaraton trophy and earned the IWLCA Attacker of the Year award last season after posting 95 points on 52 goals and 43 assists.

Syracuse defender Kasey Mock (Pottstown) had two groundballs and two caused turnovers and midfielder Amy Cross (Upper Dublin) had two groundballs and a caused turnover while Kelly Cross 9Upper Dublin) scored a goal off the bench.

Syracuse is 11-3 overall and 6-0 in the Big East while Notre Dame is 11-2, 5-2.
