For the second consecutive summer, the Philadelphia Wings are sponsoring their all-star players at a one-of-a-kind boys’ lacrosse camp held at the beautiful turf fields of the Shipley School. Wings team captain, Brodie Merrill will conduct this position-specific camp for boys in grades 3-8, July 29 through August 1, 9am-3pm.
Merrill brings his expertise from playing both field and box lacrosse to the Philly area that will focus on the positions of midfielder, attackman, defenseman and goalie. Campers will learn more about their position and how it relates to the entire team. Attention will be paid to form and lacrosse “IQ” along with promoting having fun playing the game.
Instruction includes learning proper technique in offense & defense, field positioning, team communication, individual practice strategies, dodging, ball movement, scrimmaging and more! Gain an understanding of all roles on the field – featuring live play at the end of each day, give-a-ways and competitions!
“We are thrilled that Brodie decided to come back to Philly this summer and share his expertise with the youth lacrosse community during his camp,” said Mike French, Wings president and owner. “He’s been an outstanding leader on our team and critical to our ‘Lacrosse Wake-Up Call’ community outreach program which teaches kids how to make positive choices by living a healthy lifestyle and avoiding the temptations of drugs and alcohol.”
Merrill is one of the most highly decorated players in the world, known for his run & gun style of play. He plays defense for the Hamilton Nationals (MLL) and transition for the Wings (NLL); however, he’s no stranger to offense either, scoring his share of goals in the 2013 Wings season. He is also the men’s Lacrosse Director at The Hill Academy in Toronto, Canada.
Campers won’t find a better qualified instructor anywhere. Merrill has been named the “Best Player in the World” by Inside Lacrosse and has won almost every major award in the NCAA, NLL, MLL and the FIL World Championships. He is sponsored by Reebok.
Merrill is a three time NLL Transition/Defensive Player of the Year, six time MLL Defensive Player of the Year, has twice been named “Best Defenseman In The World” at the FIL World Championships and was a two time All American at Georgetown. He also currently serves as the head coach of the Canadian Under 19 Men’s National Team.
