The Philadelphia girls won their second straight U16 championship Thursday at the JCC Maccabi Games in Orange County, Calif.
The JCC Maccabi Games is an Olympic-style sporting competition held each summer in North America and is the second largest organized sports program for Jewish teenagers in the world. Last year Team Philly won the gold in Rockland, N.Y.
Philly repeated as Maccabi girls’ champion by routing Baltimore, 16-6. The Philly team featured balanced scoring and solid goaltending from Shayna Silverman (Baldwin School) and Devon Scharf (Lower Merion).
The team also featured Jesse Rubin (Friends’ Central), Abby Goldstein (Lower Merion), Vanessa Auritt (Baldwin School), Julia Greitzer (Baldwin School), Avital Schweitzer (Friends’ Central), Eliza Mantelmacher (Baldwin School), Izzy Schaeffer (Baldwin School), Ellie Greenberg (Baldwin School) and Hannah Anderson (Friends’ Central).
The coaches were Erica Spatz and Laura Patton.
Ten of the girls play for Quaker City Lacrosse Club.
