There are 24 NCAA Division I women’s college programs being coached by women that graduated from Philadelphia high schools.

The new hires this summer were Hannah Rudloff (West Chester East, Penn) at Drexel and Eve Levinson (Germantown Academy, Penn) at Mercer – which starts play in 2015.

Last year’s new coaches were Kate Henwood (Garnet Valley, La Salle University) at UC Davis, Regina Oliver (Pottstown) at Cincinnati, Jill DePetris (Archbishop Carroll, Bryant) and Heather Holt (Radnor) at Old Dominion. Holt had served as an interim coach for a year. Henwood went 6-9 and capped the year with a stunning victory over Stanford; Oliver went 7-9 and also finished with a huge win, over Rutgers; DePetris, a former St. Joseph’s assistant, went 10-8 and took her underdog team to the NEC finals; Holt went 4-13.

The list is headed by Navy’s Cindy Timchal (Haverford High, West Chester University), who won eight National titles at Maryland and is the winningest coach of all time (431 victories). She was inducted last year as a member of the US Lacrosse National Hall of Fame.

Princeton’s Chris Sailer (Haverford High) has won three National titles and was selected to the US Lacrosse Hall of Fame in 2008.

Temple’s Bonnie Rosen (Harriton) was inducted into the Eastern Pennsylvania Chapter of the US Lacrosse Hall of Fame in 2009 and the US Lacrosse National Hall of Fame in 2010. Rosen started the program at Connecticut before coming back to Temple.

Duke’s Kerstin Kimel (Haverford High) is the only coach the Blue Devils have had and in her 18 seasons at the helm she has compiled a 230-110 record, leading the Blue Devils to six national semifinals, four ACC regular season titles, an ACC Tournament Championship and 16 consecutive NCAA Tournaments – the third longest current streak in the nation.

The list also features two coaches that helped lead Team USA to the FIL championship this summer as assistants: Boston University’s Liz Robertshaw (Strath Haven) and Stanford’s Amy Bokker (Phoenixville).

Yale’s Anne Phillips (Henderson) built Owen J. Roberts into a power and then took Franklin & Marshall to the Division III national crown in 2007.

Virginia’s Julie Myers (Harriton) has the rare distinction of being a player, an assistant coach and a head coach for Cavaliers teams that won the NCAA crown.

Amanda O’Leary (Spring-Ford, Temple) has taken Florida to the NCAA quarterfinals (twice) and semifinals after launching the program just four years ago.

Stephanie Ridolfi (Mount St. Joseph) of Holy Cross is the program’s all-time winningest coach and in 2006 and 2007 led the program to its first two Patriot League titles and NCAA Tournament appearances.

Also, four of the Ivy League’s eight teams are coached by Philly women: Sailer (Princeton), Phillips (Yale), Jenny Graap (Cornell/West Chester East), and Amy Patton (Dartmouth/Unionville).

Candance Taglianetti Bossell (Haverford High) guided La Salle to a school-record 10 wins in 2013. Laura Brand-Sias (Radnor) has won over 100 games in 12 seasons at Rutgers. Alison Fisher (Hatboro-Horsham) led Lafayette into the Patriot League semis where they nearly pulled off a big upset before bowing to Navy, 9-8. Denise Roessler (Camden Catholic) went a solid 8-8 this year at St. Joseph’s. Julie Young (Germantown Academy) helped Villanova improve its win total by two, to six. B.J. (Lucey) Johnson (Springfield-Delco) is 18-9 in three seasons during NEC play at Mount St. Mary’s

Also, Philly grads are heading up nearly all the Philly programs in the city: Rosen (Temple), Taglianetti Bossell (La Salle), Roessler (St. Joseph’s), Young (Villanova), Rudloff (Drexel), Sailer (Princeton), and Fisher (Lafayette). And Lehigh’s coach, Jill Redfern, is an Ursinus College grad.
