The Hatboro-Horsham School Board voted unanimously last week to approve a $30,000 sponsorship with the Edward Taylor Coombs Foundation to fund a new scoreboard at the high school stadium, which will be named the Edward Taylor Coombs Scoreboard.

District officials said that the current scoreboard is over 20 years old and only designed to to record football scores and not compliant with Title IX. The stadium itself is only several years old.

The Edward Taylor Coombs Foundation was created after the death of Eddie Coombs, a former Hatboro-Horsham standout lacrosse player who died in a car accident Aug. 6, 2011, after his freshman year at Marist College. Coombs, an honor student, was MVP of the lacrosse team and led the Hatters to a league title and a berth in the state playoffs.

The Foundation has been active with a number of fundraisers including a golf outing, two 5K marathons and a Fall college tournament. It has successfully awarded more than $25,000 in scholarships to Hatboro-Horsham graduates.

Funds for the scoreboard will come from the Foundation as well as corporate sponsors.

The scoreboard is expected to be delivered early in the football season.
