The Duke’s Lacrosse Club.s 2017 team claimed the 2015 Division championship recently at the Maryland Terrapin Fall Classic by defeating Blackwolf (DC-Northern VA), 13-1. That title came after the same Dukes team also took the 2015 crown at the Brandywine Classic.
The Dukes opened with a win over Leading Edge (NJ), 7-4, and then topped the West Coast Stars, 8-6, before a packed crowd. The Starz were coached by Dukes LC alum and Maryland senior goalie Niko Amato.
Overall Dukes MVP’s were Brett Baskin (La Salle) and Anthony Giuliani (La Salle). Offensive MVP’s were Chris Hladczuk (La Salle), Mike Fay (Malvern Prep), Jake Martellucci (Episcopal Academy), Matt Moore (Garnet Valley), Devon Tavani (Ridley) & Joe Robertson (STAB).
Defensive MVP’s were Jake Floyd Jones (Episcopal Academy), James Spence (Springfield-Delco), Jordan Young (St. Joseph’s Prep), Alex Malitas (Penn Charter), Jake McCaughan (St. Augustine Prep), Danny Cassidy (Spring-Ford) & Frankie Labetti (Moorestown).
Meanwhile, the Dukes 2016’s also had a great showing at the Terrapin Classic by winning its division crown. The Dukes had dropped a tough finale the week before at Brandywine to a strong Penncrest squad. At the Terrapin Classic, the Dukes took the title by downing Blackwolf, 9-4.
The Dukes opened up with an 8-2 win over South Shore (NJ), and then rallied to top a hungry West Coast Stars 2016 team, 6-5. Overall MVP’s Phillip Robertson (STAB) and Zach Methlie (Springfield), Offensive MVP’s Craig Coleman (La Salle), Carter Gensler (Spring-Ford), Defensive MVP’s Patrick Lyons (Salesianum School), Matt Binnion (Harriton), Jason Yoquinto (Bishop Shanahan) & Ian Walsh (Shipley).
