Tori Dugan (Bayard Rustin) scored four goals and Jacki Patterson (Brandwyine, DE) posted four points (3 goals, 1 assist) as seventh-ranked West Chester defeated host Holy Family, 16-4, in its 2012 season opener at Tiger Field on a sunny, but cold, Tuesday afternoon.
West Chester (1-0) ran out to a 10-0 lead by halftime and never looked back against Holy Family (0-2).
Dugan had her hat trick by halftime, and Jamie Dolan and Erin Oczkowski (Archbishop Wood) also scored a pair of goals in the first 20 minutes. The Tigers’ Stephanie McNesby (Archbishop Ryan) finally got the home team on the board early in the second half. However, Patterson tallied a pair and Julianne Williams scored two more as the Golden Rams pushed their lead to 14-1.
Holy Family scored three straight goals to close to 14-4. However, Theresa Giunta (Henderson) and Dugan scored in the final seven minutes of the game to close out the scoring.
McNesby and freshman Brianna Lancetta (Bishop Eustace) each scored twice for Holy Family.
Sophomore Jess Henderson (Henderson) made four saves in the win. Holy Family’s Melissa Jenkins (Interboro) made 13 saves.
Division I
North Carolina 16, Lehigh 8
Emily Garrity (Strath Haven) had two goals, an assist, two draw controls, two groundballs and a caused turnover while Kelly Devlin (Downingtown East) added four groundballs and a caused turnover and Beth Ellis (Radnor) led the defense as the No. 2 Tar Heels (7-0) toppled the Mountain Hawks in Chapel Hill, N.C.
Kelsey Yenco had two goals and six draw controls to lead Lehigh (2-3).
Division III
Ursinus 19, Albright 4
Ursinus scored the first seven goals on the afternoon and never looked back as the Bears (2-0) defeated Albright (2-2).
Four different players scored three goals for Ursinus: junior midfielder Elizabeth Chatburn (Upper Dublin), junior midfielder Megan Horney (St. Mark’s, DE), senior attack Kim Peifer (Methacton) and sophomore attack Amber Moyer (Conrad Weiser), while freshman midfielder Kitty Dawson, senior attack Emily Diehl (Voorhees) and junior attack Lauren Garganio (Shawnee) each had two.
Swarthmore 16, Marymount 12
The Garnet opened their season in Clearwater, Fla., with a big win.
Sophomore Corrine Sommi scored six goals, junior Annalise Penikis (Strath Haven) scored four goals and added three assists, and freshman Sara Lentricchia scored a trio of goals in her collegiate debut. Junior Nicole Vanchieri, junior Beth Martin, and freshman Elyse Tierney also scored for the Garnet.

Sweet Briar 12, Gwynedd-Mercy 9
