Freshman Taylor Trimble (Episcopal Academy) totaled a career best five points on four goals and an assist as the fifth-ranked Duke women’s lacrosse team earned a 17-13 road victory over Richmond Friday afternoon at Robins Stadium.

“The good thing is that our offense got back on track from Sunday’s effort at Vanderbilt,” said head coach Kerstin Kimel (Haverford High). I’m really pleased with that and what we worked on in practice really showed. Defensively, it was not a great effort by us. The good thing is we can get better from here and move on and look forward to seeing Northwestern on Sunday.”

Duke led by five at the half and built an eight-goal lead in the second half before Richmond closed the margin with a 6-2 run over the final 20 minutes of play. Trimble (three draw controls) led all scorers on the day, followed closely by senior Kim Wenger (Great Valley) and junior Makenzie Hommel, who both totaled four points on three goals and an assist.

The Blue Devils fell behind 2-0 early, but utilized a 6-0 run to take a lead they would not relinquish the rest of the way. Wenger put Duke on the board with a free position shot, followed by goals from Hommel and redshirt senior Emma Hamm (Baldwin School), who finished with a goal, two assists and seven draw controls.

Trimble answered a Richmond goal with back-to-back scores midway through the first half to give the Blue Devils an 8-3 advantage midway through the opening period. The Spiders cut Duke’s lead to three, but The Blue Devils responded with a three-minute, 4-0 run. Duke received a goal each from sophomore Taylor Virden, freshman Chelsea Landon, Trimble and Hommel during that span.

Amanda Jones (Germantown Academy) added a goal for Duke.

Ohio State 19, Robert Morris 2

Gabby Capuzzi (Archbishop Carroll) collected three goals, six draw controls, two causes turnovers and two groundballs to lead the Buckeyes.
