Saturday’s boys’ wrap: Conestoga falls to Hill Academy; Pennsbury routs Avon Grove, PC tops St. Augustine Prep

Zach Herreweyers scored with goal 5:16 left broke a 6-6 tie and sent The Hill Academy to a 7-6 victory over host Conestoga today in non-league boys’ lacrosse.

The Hill (8-2) is from Ontario, Canada, and is coached by the Wings’ Brodie Merrill.

The Pioneers (7-2) got shut out in the final period when Hill made a big comeback. Herreweyers and Kyle Jackson each had three goals for Hill.

Bradlee Lord led the Pioneers with two goals and two assists and Pierre Atkinson scored twice while Robbie Zonino made 12 saves.

Pennsbury 14, Avon Grove 4

Pennsbury (9-1) earned a convincing non-league victory over the Devils (7-3).

After a relatively close first half and some excellent goaltending from the Avon Grove goalie Will Shreiner (22 saves), Pennsbury explode for six goals in the 3rd quarter to open up the game. The Falcons had a balanced scoring attack led by Evan Caterson (3G, 2A) while each offensive starter found the net. Caterson was also big at the faceoff x, going 7-2 on his draws, allowing the Falcon offense to control the flow of the game.

The Pennsbury defense was lead by Lewis Sears, who was able to effectively shut down the top Avon Grove offensive attackman. Drew Sweetland was big in the net making 12 saves while only allowing one goal.

Penn Charter 9, St. Augustine Prep 6

Eric Berger scored three goals and Drew Murray had a pair and one assist as the Quakers (7-8) earned a big non-league win in South Jersey.

Shane Carr added two goals for PC and Jackson Tamasitas had nine saves.

The Hermits – who got two goals each from Mike Sutton and Steve Pontrello – fell to 6-3.

Archmere Academy 11, A.I. DuPont 4

The Auks of Archmere continue their strong start (7-0) as Dan Ehrlichman led with four goals while Connor Beatson and Bryan Garrahan each added two.

Archmere head coach Noel Breger: “We have a lot of senior leadership and underclassman that have played hard for the team this year. Today everyone on the offense was a shooter on the sticks.”

Davis Russell recorded five saves in the nets for the Auks.

Great Valley 13, Unionville 7

Greg Merrill had three goals and two assists while Dillan Buettner and Noah Joseph had three goals and one assist to pace the Patriots to the Ches-Mont League win.

Dave Appruzzese and Patch Johnson each had three goals for the Indians.
