The Cabrini College men’s lacrosse posted a dominating performance in winning its fourth consecutive game Saturday. The Cavaliers outshot FDU-The College at Florham 43-16 en route to a 16-5 win at Edith Robb Dixon Field. The Blue and White now stands at 5-2 as it moves into Colonial States Athletic Conference action.
Junior Bobby Thorp continues to lead Cabrini’s offensive attack, adding three goals and three assists to his coffers. Senior Brian Hill (Ridley) added three goals and assists. Sophomore Matt Biegel (West Chester East) and freshman Kevin MacQuilliam also tallied a pair of goals each. Anthony DiNenno (Avon Grove) was 13 of 13 at the face-off X as the Cavs won 20 of 21 draws.
Thorp opened the scoring 78 seconds into action when he converted a pass from freshman Damian Sobieski (Avon Grove) for his first tally of the day. Six minutes later, senior Joe Arrell (Springfield-Delco) found the net for the second time this season on an assist from Hill.
Thorp posted two of his three assists in a five second period late in the first period. The junior found Hill at the 3:44 mark for a 3-0 Cabrini lead. Five seconds later, Thorp found senior John McSorley (Ridley) for the defenseman’s first tally of the season.
Ursnus 8, Swarthmore 6
After a scoreless first period, Ursinus outscored Swarthmore 7-3 over the next three quarters to gain a Centennial Conference win over the Garnet.
Ursinus (5-1, 1-0 Centennial) got three goals and two assists from freshman attack Mark Stratton (Manheim Township) while senior attack Dave Kraus had two goals and two assists.
Swarthmore (3-3, 0-1 Centennial) got two goals from sophomore attack Brendan Conway in the loss.
After the scoreless first period, Ursinus got on the board first as Kraus scoed with 12:02 left in the half on an assist from freshman midfielder Ian Moore.
After Swarthmore’s Wes Marcik scored, the two teams traded goals before Ursinus scored two straight to end the half to go up 4-2. Stratton scored both, the first on an assist from senior attack Andrew Bean at 3:20, the second unassisted at 1:01.
Conway scored his first goal of the game at 12:56 left in the third to cut the Garnet decifit to 4-3, before Ursinus scored four straight to take an 8-3 lead. Freshman attack Steve Smyrl (Garnet Valley) had two goals during the run: one with 11:56 left in the third and one with 11:16 left in the fourth.
Swarthmore would make one last charge, scoring three straight in the fourth but could not get any closer than 8-6.
Sophomore faceoff specialist Shawn Caven (Pennsbury) was 11-for-18 on faceoffs and collected seven ground balls.
Junior goalkeeper T.J. Magnani (St. Mark’s) had 17 saves and seven ground balls in the win.
Gettysburg 9, Haverford College 6
Phillip Valliant had three goals and Christian Clay (Lawrenceville School) scored two for the Fords in the Centennial Conference defeat.
