Men’s recruit: Abington junior defenseman Pifani commits to North Carolina

Abington junior defenseman Austin Pifani has made a verbal commitment to play Division I lacrosse at the University of North Carolina. Pifani was the No. 15 Rising Junior Young Gun by Inside Lacrosse and the No. 33 Rising Junior by ESPNHS this fall.

Graduation Year:
2013

Position: Defenseman

College Choice:
University of North Carolina

Club Affiliation: Duke’s L.C.

Major lacrosse honors: First Team Suburban One National Conference, 2011; Honorable Mention, 2010; Inside Lacrosse No. 15 Rising Junior Young Gun; No. 33 Rising Junior by ESPNHS; Philly Showcase Gait Fab 40, 2010; member of four-time undefeated league champions.

Academic honors: Honor Roll

What will you major in/study?Leaning toward Business or Engineering.

Why did you choose school? “When I went to campus I fell in love with it; all the coaches and players made me feel comfortable. And they have a high-caliber lacrosse team! It’s a great place to be. I think in the next couple years they should have something special and I want to be a part of it.”

Other schools considered: Maryland, Syracuse.

What is your HS team’s outlook for next year?“Our defense is going to be extremely solid. New head coach Ryan Greer is really pushing us in the off season. We’re going to go out after it!”

Other comments: “I have to thank my family and friends, my new high school coach, Ryan Greer, former coach Randy McNeil and Ebe Helm and Jason Christmas of the Duke’s Lacrosse program; as well as my youth program, Abington Lacrosse Club, for getting me started. I also want to thank all my assistant coaches and others who coached me.”
