It took 45 minutes, but the Cabrini College men’s lacrosse team finally figured out Swarthmore College’s defense today, scoring four goals in the final 10 minutes to secure the 7-3 win. The Cavaliers’ first home win of 2012 improved their record to 3-2, while Swarthmore drops to 2-2.
The game turned about five minutes into the fourth quarter when the Cavaliers took advantage of an unforced Swarthmore turnover. The Blue and White completed the spurt in the game’s final minute when Bobby Thorp (three goals) converted a Damian Sobieski (Avon Grove) pass to complete his second consecutive hat trick.
After struggling early, freshman faceoff specialist Anthony DiNenno (Avon Grove) won his final six face-offs, including five in the decisive fourth quarter.
Defensively, the trio of Cabrini senior John McSorly (Ridley), junior Andrew Kvech and sophomore Bill McCabe (Spring-Ford), each forced two Swarthmore turnovers.
