Garnet Valley senior midfielder Jonathan Vandenberg has made a verbal commitment to play Division I lacrosse at Furman University.

Jonathan Vandenberg log:

Jon Vandenberg

High School: Garnet Valley

Graduation Year: 2013

Position: Midfield

College Choice: Furman

Club Affiliation: Jags Lax

Major lacrosse honors: EPSLA Sophomore Public v Private Game; Jake Reed’s Nike Blue Chip; Philly Showcase;
Brine Shootout

What will you major in/study? Biological Sciences/Pre-Med

Why did you choose Furman? “Furman has the perfect blend of rigorous academics and the opportunity to participate on the initial D1 men’s lacrosse team, coached by the legend, Richie Meade. When I visited the campus, I was impressed with the facilities for both academics and sports. I could tell both Coach Meade and Coach Athens were interested in me as a person as well as a player. Furman is a great fit for me.”

Outlook for your high school team next season? “Garnet Valley should be very competitive in the Central League. Although we had a lot of strong players graduate, the current players are really stepping up. We want to make a strong run in the playoffs, as we did last year.”

Additional Comments: “I would like to thank all of my friends for their continued support. A huge thank you to my family for always being there for me. A special thank you to my Garnet Valley coaches, Frank Urso, Jim Snow, Joe Kivlin and Bryan Tingle. I would also like to thank my youth coach Jim Taviano. Also, a big thank you to Kyle Sweeney and Denny Nealon for helping me through the process.”
