Michael Crowley scored two goals and Tom McDermott made nine saves in goal as visiting Ridley pulled of a stunning 4-0 shutout of Garnet Valley tonight in Central League boys’ lacrosse.
The Green Raiders (11-2, 8-0) remain tied with Conestoga atop the league standing while the Jaguars (10-2, 6-2) fell two games off the pace.
Kelton Heverly and Kyle Bush also scored for Ridley, which put a blanket around the dangerous Garnet Valley attack. The defense was led by junior long pole Nick Eufrasio and senior Matt Ward.
“We have been working hard all year and our defense stepped it up and Tommy played amazing,” Heverly said. “We got the job done on offense.
“We feel we can play with any team out there. We knew they had some guys that could (score), but we knew what we had to do. Our defenseman are good and we kept them contained. We played the defense we always play.”
The Jags had only two solid scoring chances all night against the stingy Ridley zone defense; but McDermott stopped Jules Raucci on a tough short and Rob Raucci hit the post on another.
“Our squad played four solid quarters of good lacrosse,” said Ridley coach Kevin Ellers. “We competed hard and Tommy McDermott played well. Garnet Valley is talented, and our squad played a solid zone.”
