Big City Classic wrap: Philly players help Notre Dame, Duke, UNC claim wins

Liam O’Connor (Haverford School), Westy Hopkins (La Salle, Lawrenceville School) and Stephen O’Hara (St. Joseph’s Prep) helped Notre Dame defeat St. John’s, 13-6, today in the opener of the Konica Minolta Big City Classic at MetLife Stadium at East Rutherford, N.J.

No. 6 Notre Dame (7-1, 2-0) trailed 4-3 at halftime, yet outscored St. John’s 10-2 in the second half en route to the victory. O’Connor had a goal and won 9 of 16 face-offs while Hopkins scored once and O’Hara (defenseman) had four groundballs and a caused turnover.

In the second game, Duke toppled Syracuse as Jordan Wolf (Lower Merion) scored two goals and had three assists, goalie Dan Wigrizer (Haverford School) made eight saves, Brian Dailey (Conestoga) had two groundballs and a caused turnover, and Henry Lobb (Malvern Prep) and Billy Conners (Malvern Prep) each had groundballs.

In the nightcap, Joey Sankey (Penn Charter) and Ryan Kilpatrick (Salesianum School) each scored to help North Carilina stun No. 1 Johns Hopkins, 13-9. Kilpatrick added two groundballs and Hopkins defenseman Tucker Durkin (La Salle) had two groundballs and three caused turnovers.
