Adrenaline lacrosse has announced the unveiling of the inaugural Black Card Showcase, a top recruiting event slated for June 15 at Radnor High that will be offered at cost for top recommended boys’ players in the classes of 2013, 2014 and 2015.
The Black Card Showcase is viewed by many in the lacrosse world as a landscape-changing event.
While it is true to “showcase” form, by capturing the top end of the recruiting talent, it deviates from industry norm by being an at-cost charity event with unprecedented industry backing.
The low cost of $75 will be utilized to pay for referees, field costs, insurance and incidentals with the rest of the proceeds going to charity.
“We looked at what was happening with the landscape of lacrosse especially concerning recruitment and were a bit disturbed about what we saw with recent developments and programs,” said Adrenaline Lacrosse President Alex Cade.
“Frankly, we think it needs to change and feel good about being in the position as a company to do so. Our goal is to be sure that these kids are not taken advantage of by programs and a landscape that is largely not altruistically motivated. I don’t think we would ever claim that making money is a bad thing but when it is not truly serving the best interests of the players we have a problem with that.
The event has also garnered overwhelming support from the nation’s top NCAA college coaches, who will be preparing for a unique three-day period of the summer for their recruiting season. The Black Card Showcase was set as a precursor to the prestigious National Scholastic Club Lacrosse Association (NSCLA) Champions Cup tournament, being held June 16-17 at the University of Delaware in Newark.
That tourney features all members of the NSCLA, which currently includes Philly-based LB3, Long Island Express, Edge Elite (Canada), CNY Roadhawks, New Hampshire Tomahawks, Progression Lacrosse (Ct. Hurricanes), Patriot Lacrosse, Leading Edge, Madlax, Baltimore Lacrosse Club (Crabs), Roughriders, Carolina Select, True Lacrosse and Denver Elite.
In addition, the West Coast Starz were recently admitted to the NSCLA and two more nationally-recognized club teams will soon be added.
“This program will change all of this for the better by allowing the top kids to come to an unprecedented event and get the product and experience they deserve for next to nothing,” said Cade of the Black Card Showcase. “We are very proud to be in a position to do something like this.”
