Women’s recruits: Two Great Valley seniors sign National Letters of Intent to play at D1 Oregon

University of Oregon head women’s lacrosse coach Jen Larsen-Beck has announced the signing of 13 prep athletes to National Letters of Intent. The new Ducks join the rest of the team on campus in fall 2012.

Four of the newest Ducks hail from California, three from Pennsylvania and two from Massachusetts and Maryland and one from Oregon and Ohio to round out the signing class.

Four pairs of the student-athletes participated on the same club teams together. Shelby Boudrea and Carly O’Connell both played for the Revolution Lacrosse Club. Elizabeth Casertano and Holly Johnson competed for the Maryland United Lacrosse Club and Great Valley’s Jackie Moccia and Jenna Morris are both members of Mongoose Lacrosse Club. Alison Scharkey and Courtney Valdez round out the connections with both members coming from the X-Team Lacrosse Club.

The Ducks open the 2011-12 campaign on the East Coast with a swing through the Mid-Atlantic region. They face Temple and La Salle in Philadelphia, PA. on Feb. 17 and 19, respectively and head to Baltimore for a contest versus Towson University on Feb. 21.

Jackie Moccia ∙ M/D ∙ Malvern, Pa. ∙ Great Valley HS ∙ Mongoose Lacrosse Club

High School: Participates in lacrosse, soccer and field hockey at Great Valley HS…named to All-Chesmont League Honorable Mention squad en route to leading team to an undefeated season and Chesmont League championship during sophomore season and was also an all-star at the Philly Showcase…team placed third in the state during junior year…off the field, a three-year honor roll recipient and a National Society of High School Scholars member…has also received the Bronze Volunteer Award.

Jenna Morris ∙ GK ∙ Phoenixville, Pa. ∙ Great Valley HS ∙ Mongoose Lacrosse Club

High School: Started the past four seasons at Great Valley HS…tabbed by ESPN as the 23rd best goal keeper in the country…named to the second-team of the Daily Local News and All-League during junior season…on the soccer field as a three-year starter, earned first-team All-League distinction in her final season…made the honor roll throughout high school, as well as being named an Academic All-American.

Shelby Boudreau ∙ D ∙ North Andover, Mass. ∙ North Andover HS ∙ Revolution Lacrosse Club

High School: Having led North Andover HS to back-to-back conference championships, the captain led the team in ground balls and was second on the team in assists last season…also participated in two seasons of basketball.

Elizabeth Casertano ∙ D/M ∙ Pittsburg, Pa. ∙ Shaler Area HS ∙ Maryland United Lacrosse Club

High School: Earned three letters in three seasons at Shaler Area HS…named captain in each of the last two seasons by teammates in addition to being named most valuable player the past three years…earned All-Section, All-WPIAL recognition, while being named the 2011 Maryland United Most Dedicated Player all last season… in three seasons has tallied a total of 182 goals…assisted the team in capturing the 2010 Section during her sophomore campaign…awarded Shaler Area Varsity Spirit of the Game award (freshman) and Shaler Area Golden Stick award (junior)…member of the National Honor Society, honor roll and received the Tribune Review Outstanding Young Citizen Award and was elected Junior Class President.

Holly Johnson ∙ M/A ∙ Odenton, Md. ∙ Arundel HS ∙ Maryland United Lacrosse Club

High School: Two-sport (lacrosse and soccer) athlete at Arundel HS…earned three letters on the lacrosse team…during sophomore season was the team’s third highest scorer…named team captain last season and had the most assists on the team while also being the team’s second highest goal scorer…made the honor roll the past three years and has been a member of the Key Club for two years.

Lauren Drake ∙ M/D ∙ Columbus, Ohio ∙ Upper Arlington HS ∙ Midwestern Force Lacrosse Club

High School: Participated in cross country, field hockey and lacrosse at Upper Arlington HS…last season as the captain, was named second-team All-District and All-State…as a sophomore was a member of the Great Lakes National Team…in first season at UAHS, earned Rookie of the Year honors…in the classroom, has maintained a 3.7 GPA and stayed on the honor roll past four years…in addition to taking AP courses, active in National Society of High School Scholars and the National Art Society.

Lindsey LeMay ∙ M/D ∙ Corvallis, Ore. ∙ Corvallis HS ∙ Lacrosse Northwest Rippers Club

High School: A four-year letterwinner and captain for the Corvallis HS lacrosse team in addition to earning two letters in soccer and basketball and one in cross country…only member of her high school team to play four seasons…tabbed to league second-team during freshman season and garnered first-team placement last two seasons…off the field, has maintained a three-year membership with the National Honor Society.

Katie Marlatt ∙ M/D ∙ Clarksville, Md. ∙ River Hill HS ∙ Hero’s Lacrosse Club

High School: Member of lacrosse and soccer teams at River Hill HS…was only freshman to play varsity lacrosse in first season and led the team in ground balls…named team offensive player of the year last season with 38 goals as captain…on the soccer field, won state championship as a freshman and was named all-county honorable mention last season and in final season on the pitch, the captain won the county championship and district…President of Students Helping Other People, National Honor Society and is an honor roll student.

Carly O’Connell ∙ A/M ∙ Southborough, Mass. ∙ Algonquin HS ∙ Revolution Lacrosse Club
High School: In the past three seasons was named a league all-star, Mid Wach All-Star and was also named to the Worcester Telegram and Gazette Super Team…garnered back-to-back team most valuable player award and was named the Rookie of the Year in first season with the team…also participated on soccer and basketball teams that won the league and district championships…named captain of basketball and lacrosse teams…also a member of the honor roll.

Savanna Peters ∙ A/M ∙ Linden, Calif. ∙ Linden HS ∙ BearLax Lacrosse Club

High School: School does not sponsor a lacrosse team, but has participated in club lacrosse for the past three seasons…was injured last season, but was the team captain during sophomore and freshman seasons and was named first team all-league…earned letters in basketball and soccer at Linden HS…twice captured defensive first-team all-league accolades in basketball…member of the California Scholarship Federation, as well as being on Academic Varsity Block last three years.

Alison Scharkey ∙ D/M ∙ Yorba Linda, Calif. ∙ Esperanza HS ∙ X-Team Lacrosse Club

High School: Lettered past three seasons in lacrosse and tennis at Esperanza HS…served the past two seasons as the team captain…during sophomore season was selected as the team defensive player of the year and last season was chosen as the team most valuable player…during junior season set school records for most goals in a season (64) and for most points scored in a season (82)…named first-team All-Sunset League in addition to being tabbed as a U.S. Lacrosse Academic All-American…member of the California Scholarship Federation and a four-year scholar athlete…Principal’s honor roll recipient three times and was named the team’s scholar athlete of the year.

Natalie Simpson ∙ M/A ∙ Carlsbad, Calif. ∙ Carlsbad HS ∙ West Coast Starz Lacrosse Club

High School: Earned letters in lacrosse, soccer and cross country at Carlsbad HS…selected to the Avocado West Athletic Conference second-team, as well as being selected for the Under Armour Underclassmen All-American West team…during sophomore campaign was picked for the Women’s Division National Tournament Pacific team…received the Iron Lancer award for playing three varsity sports in one year…led the team in scoring…tabbed to the Union Tribune All-Academic team…member of the Spanish Club and FCA, as well as serving as the recruiting officer for the Children’s Relief Club.

Courtney Valdez ∙ A/M ∙ Santa Ana, Calif. ∙ Foothill HS ∙ X-Team Lacrosse Club

High School: Three-sport athlete (lacrosse, basketball and soccer) at Foothill HS…despite being injured last season, named to Under Armour All-American West and Women’s National Tournament SoCal (third selection) squads…twice named to all-league team, in addition to being named to the first-team All-County last season…led team in scoring last season on 76 goals and 23 assists en route to being recognized as the Impact Player of the Year…was first freshman to garner midfielder of the year award…finalist for Heather Leigh Albert Award and was Adrenaline Showcase Attacker of Division and Female of Division…earned most valuable player of the California 7-on- Synapses Sports Division.
