Women’s lacrosse: Garrity (Strath Haven), UNC down Florida in 2 OTs; Philly grads lead Vanderbilt to rout

Emily Garrity (Strath Haven) scored once in overtime and then Corey Donohoe tallied the game-winner with :07 left in the second OT frame as host North Carolina downed stubborn Florida, 10-9, today in a women’s lacrosse opener at Chapel Hill, N.C.

Garrity scored on a free position shot with 1:21 left in the first OT period for the No. 3 Tar Heels, but Brittany Dashiell tied it with 18 seconds left in the frame. Florida is coached by former Temple great Amanda O’Leary (Spring-Ford).

Vanderbilt 22, Presbyterian 3

Sophomore Kelly Connors (Radnor) had two goals and freshman Sarah Tustin (Hatboro-Horsham) added a goal and an assist while freshman defender Alyssa Dunlap (Radnor) added two groundballs and two caused turnovers for the Commodores in their opener. Sophomore Kacie Connors (Radnor) added one assist for Vandy.

Duke 21, Ohio State 9

Emma Hamm (Baldwin School) tallied four goals and added two assist to help the Blue Devils roll in their opener.

Gabby Capuzzi (Archbishop Carroll) had five draw controls, three groundballs and two caused turnovers for the Buckeyes.
