The Philadelphia Wings of the National Lacrosse League (NLL) have signed number one draft pick Kevin Crowley to a one-year contract, pending league approval. The Wings selected the forward from Stony Brook University (Stony Brook, N.Y.) with the first overall selection in the 2011 NLL Entry Draft in late September.
While playing in 60 career games for Stony Brook, Crowley scored 131 goals and added 101 assists and finished his career among the best players ever to play for the school. He is the only player in Stony Brook history to record 100 or more goals and assists, and one of just 40 players in Division I history to accomplish the feat. Additionally, Crowley is one of three players in America East history to be a four-time first team selection and in 2010 he earned the USILA Enners Award, given to nation’s most outstanding Division I player.
Crowley will help bolster the offensive attack next season, joining forward Dan Dawson and transition player Brodie Merrill as a key offensive addition to the Philadelphia Wings for the upcoming 2012 season.
“With the addition of Kevin and our other off season moves, we are ready to roll up our sleeves and get down to work,” says General Manager and Head Coach Johnny Mouradian. “We have an opportunity here and we know everyone in the organization feels that we have the level of talent necessary to succeed. Kevin is living in the market and will assist in our marketing efforts with the lacrosse community and sports fans.”
Fans can catch their first glimpse of Kevin Crowley and the 2012 Philadelphia Wings team against the Rochester Knighthawks at Sun National Bank Center in Trenton, NJ, on Sunday, December 11 at 1 p.m. The Wings will open the 2012 regular season against the Knighthawks at Wells Fargo Center on Saturday, January 14, 2012 at 7 p.m.
