Thursday’s District 1 girls’ roundup: Springfield-D, Great Valley, Harriton, D-town East advance

Maddy Lynch scored four goals while Courtney Kennedy and Kate Ryan each scored three goals as host Springfield-Delco toppled Hatboro-Horsham, 14-10, in a second-round District 1 girls’ lacrosse contest at Cabrini College.

The fifth-seeded Cougars (18-2) advanced to play Central League foe Harriton Saturday at West Chester East (4 p.m.) in the quarterfinals. Hatboro-Horsham finished at 16-3.

Nathalie Basunga added two goals for Springfield-Delco and Kristy Reid made eight saves. Hatboro-Horsham had led, 6-5, at halftime.

Cortnee Daley led the Hatters with three goals and one assist while Nicole Beck and Lizzy Carr each had two goals and an assist.

Great Valley 15, Strath Haven 8

Ali Karwoski had seven goals and an assist to lead the second-seeded Patriots (18-1) to the second-round victory over the Panthers.

Great Valley will play Boyertown in the quarterfinals Saturday at West Chester East at 2 p.m. Strath Haven closed at 12-7.

Sara McBride (one assist), Rachel Kalick and Brooke Gamble each scored twice for the Patriots and Jenna Morris made nine saves.

Alex Duckenfield and Jenna Frost each had three goals and an assist for the Panthers.and Lela Meunier made 10 saves.

Harriton 13, Haverford High 8

Caleigh Foust had five goals and an assist and Carly Sukonik added four while Jackie Marshall made 13 saves as the fourth-seeded Rams (18-2) eliminated the Fords (12-8).

Sukonik became the second highest single-season goal scorer for the Rams, upping her mark to 94 goals. He surpassed the legendary Julie Plzak Myers, the current coach at Virginia who had 92 goals in 1986.

Katrina Geiger led the Fords with four goals.

Harriton led only, 6-5, early in the second half when Betsy Hurtado sparked a run by snaring three straight draw controls.

Downingtown East 15, Mercy Merion 7

Emily Solenberger had four goals and an assist and Haley Nelson scored four goals while Allie Murray made 18 saves as the top-seeded Cougars (19-1) rolled into the quarterfinals.

Downingtown East will meet ninth-seeded Upper Dublin – a 12-9 winner over North Penn at West Chester East at noon Saturday.

Nicole Barrett added three goals and an assist for the Cougars while Kelly Devlin had a goal and an assist.

Monica O’Hara, Bonnie McShane and Julianne D’Orazio each scored two goals for the Bears (14-5).
