Becky Davis (West Chester Univ.), head women’s lacrosse coach at The University of Scranton, has announced the appointment of Katie Slade (Central Bucks East) as assistant coach for the upcoming 2012 season.

Slade joins the Royal coaching staff after recently completing highly-successful playing career at Scranton. A four-time all-Landmark Conference selection, including first-team honors in each of the past three seasons, she scored 84 goals and assisted on 16 others to finish with 100 total points in 62 career games.

She also etched her name among the Royals’ best. Slade is Scranton’s all-time leader in caused turnovers (123), and is fourth in draw controls (130), ninth in shot attempts (213), 11th in goals scored, and tied for 14th in total points in the program’s history. Over the last four years, she led the Royals to a 32-31 record, including Landmark Conference postseason tournament berths in 2009 and 2011.

“Katie was such a pleasure to coach over the past four years,” says Davis, who is entering her sixth season as head coach and her ninth in the program’s 13-year history. “She knows the game, has tremendous communication skills, and has earned the respect of all of our players and the coaches in the Landmark Conference. She will be a tremendous addition to our program.”

Slade also excelled in the classroom, earning a spot on the Landmark Conference Academic Honor Roll in each of the last three years and was named to the conference’s all-Academic team last spring. At the university’s annual Senior Student-Athlete Banquet in May, she was named the female co-recipient of the Carlesimo Award, which is named in honor the late Peter Carlesimo, former director of athletics and head football, basketball and cross-country coach at the university. It is presented to the male and female student-athlete who has maintained a 3.5-or-higher cumulative grade point average and who has demonstrated athletic excellence.

Slade earned a Bachelor of Science degree in elementary/special education from the university in May.

The Royals are coming off a 10-win season in 2011, the most for the program since 2006.
