Mark Manos (Salesianum School) stood tall in goal for Drexel (1-1), making 14 saves in a 14-7 men’s lacrosse victory today over Albany (0-1).
Robert Church led the Drexel offense with three goals and three assists, all in the second half. The Dragons trailed 4-1 in the first period, but went on to outscore Albany 13-3 for the duration.
While it took the Drexel defense a while to get organized in the first period, and Albany capitalized to go up 3-0 early, once the Dragons settled down Albany saw little action on that end of the field. Manos held the Great Danes off the board for more than 26 minutes, a span that included the entire third quarter. The junior keeper made three sensational saves in the third quarter, allowing Drexel to score three unanswered goals and mount a sizeable 11-5 lead going in to the final stanza.
Drexel outshot Albany 38-26 in the game and won 18 of 23 face-offs. The Dragons defense held Albany to just two goals in the second half and did not allow the Great Danes to convert a single extra-man opportunity.
