Senior tri-captain Courtney Kennedy poured in a game-high five goals and junior Maddie Lynch added four – all in the first half – as Springfield-Delco rolled to a 17-3 win over District 11 champion Emmaus tonight in the opening round of the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association tournament at Nazareth’s Andrew S. Leh Stadium.

The District 1 third-place Cougars (21-3) advance to the quarterfinals on Saturday (site and time to be determined) where they’ll meet a familiar foe in Great Valley, the No. 4 seed. The Patriots handed District 3 champ Manheim Township its first loss the season, 13-12.

The two teams just faced one another in the District 1 third place game on May 26 with the Cougars prevailing 15-9.

Sophomore Lauren Notofrancesco and freshman Kate Ryan each had a pair of goals in the win while senior Brooke Shea added a goal and an assist for the Cougars, who have won 12 of their last 13. Senior goalie Kristy Reid picked up the win in net.

The Cougars scored early and often in this one as they jumped out to a quick 5-0 lead just five minutes into the game and led comfortably at the half, 14-2.

Emmaus, the Lehigh Valley Girls League and District 11 champ, got solo scores from juniors Caitlin Bryan, Nicole Schmidt and sophomore Aislinn Bryan. The Hornets, who ended their best season in school history (19-4), played without three starters who were all out without injuries – defensemen Colleen Ehrig and Laura Seng along with midfielder Angie DeBellis.
