The Villanova Wildcats have announced the signing of nine high school students to national letters of intent. This class will enter Villanova in the fall of 2011 and make their collegiate lacrosse debut in the spring of 2012.
“The Villanova coaching staff is really excited to welcome this outstanding group of talented student-athletes to Villanova,” said head coach Jebb Chagan. “Their hard work in the classroom, in their community and on the lacrosse field makes this group of young ladies an especially talented bunch. I expect for them to make an immediate impact, both on and off the field this coming fall”.
The new arrivals include:
Elise Bendinelli was a three-year varsity starter at an attack spot at Villa Marie Academy and a first team Athletic Association of Catholic Academies (AACA) All-Star. She was voted second team All-Main Line and was a part of the Philly national team.
Hannah Goforth can play on attack or in the midfield and was a four year varsity starter at Bishop Shanahan High School in Downingtown. In 2010, she was selected first team All-Ches-Mont League after earning Honorable Mention consideration in 2009. She also was part of the Philly National Team 3 and was chosen to the Under Armour Regional Team.
Danielle Notvest was a four year varsity starter at Souderton Area High School, where she established herself as a first team all-league midfielder. In her junior year of high school she served as a team captain, and was selected as MVP for offense, First Team All-League Midfielder and a US Lacrosse Academic All-American. She played club lacrosse for Ultimate Goal Lacrosse and participated in the National Tournament.
Nikki Shapiro, a decorated standout as a midfielder at perennial power Moorestown High School at the program that also produced current Wildcat assistant coaches Elizabeth Weber and Xan Weitzel. Shapiro was selected for the New Jersey South Team 1 for the National Tournament and was an all-Burlington County first team selection as a junior in 2010. She also served as a team captain and was a member of the Honor and Service Society at her high school for two years.
Maggie Dobesh is headed East after earning first team all-state honors as a midfielder t Edina High School in her native Minnesota as a junior in 2010. She was named to the Under Armour Midwest team and played her club lacrosse for the Minnesota Lakers. In addition, she was an all-conference selection as both in ’09 and ’10.
Jessica Mucci was a three-year starter at an attack position at Archbishop Spalding High School in Maryland, the same school that produced current Wildcat freshman Cait Yackus. Mucci was named to the 2009 Under Armour Baltimore Girls All Start Team in 2009 and was part of the U.S. Lacrosse Women’s Division National Tournament D.C. Metro Team in 2010. She was also named an academic All-American as a senior.
Courtney Dadd accumulated 38 goals and 22 assists as a midfielder and on the attack for Urbana High School as a junior. She was voted first team All-Area and first team MVAL, as well as second team All-Gazzette. She also played for Minds in Motion and was second team All-Galaxy during the 2010 summer season.
Nicole Gleason was part of back-to-back state championship squads in her native Illinois. She also played for the Illinois National Team and was selected to the Under Armour Midwest team. In addition, Gleason was the captain of her varsity basketball team.
Kerry Anderson comes to Villanova from Notre Dame Prep, which finished second in the IAAM championship. This is a versatile athlete who also played four seasons of varsity soccer in addition to her success on the lacrosse field as a defensive wing and midfielder. Anderson was part of the M&D black team in 2010 and is a member of the TLC club team in 2011. She is also an honor roll student at Notre Dame Prep.
