A Pennsylvania team, that included many Philly girls, claimed the championship of the inaugural middle school tournament Sunday by defeating New Jersey, 9-8, at the National Lacrosse Classic in Boyds, Md.
Pennsylvania won the championship of the Middle School division at the National Lacrosse Classic at Germantown, Md.
The three-day tourney featured six teams – PA, Delaware, Maryland, New York, New Jersey and Southeast – although girls from all regions were grouped on different teams.
The Pennsylvania team included Philly girls: Izzy McDonough (Charles F. Patton Middle School, Class of 2015), Michelle Barnes (Garnet Valley Middle School, 2016), Meg Camden Downingtown West (2015), Emily Mathewson (Garnet Valley Middle School, 2016), Ryan McKinney (Bishop Shannahan, 2015) and Laura Pansini (Baldwin School, 2016).
In addition to the lacrosse, the tournament included seminars on subjects like sports parenting, nutrition and fitness and NCAA eligibility rules.
The PA team was coached by Chelsea Rosiek, a former Temple standout who is an assistant at Wissahickon and a coach at Ultimate Goal Lacrosse Club.
