Shawnee (N.J.) junior midfielder Jacob Dean has made a verbal commitment to play Division I lacrosse at the University of Virginia.

Jacob Dean log:

Jacob Dean

High school: Shawnee

Graduation year: 2013

Position: Midfielder

College choice: University of Virginia

Club affiliation: Braveheart Lacrosse

Major lacrosse honors: Jake Reed Nike Blue Chip, Ecks Factor Clinic, Bay Bridge Brawl, Rutgers MVP, 2nd team All-Conference, Team Middie of the Year

What will you major in/study:
Engineering

Why did you choose school? “It was the best fit for me, academically and athletically. I had a great visit, and having (sophomore middie) Chris LaPierre, who came from my high school, as a host was a plus. Coach (Dom) Starsia’s history and success, along with his coaches, were big factors.”

Outlook for your high school team: “We have a lot of scorers, and hope to build on last years quarterfinal appearance. We believe we can compete for the state title.”

Other comments: “My Bravheart coach, Patrick McDonough, who also coaches at Penn Charter in Philadelphia, has been key in my improvement and letting me showcase my talents. My Shawnee coach, Tim Gushue, has been helping me get better and enjoying my high school years.”
