Great Valley junior defenseman Niall Durkan has made a verbal commitment to play Division I lacrosse at Colgate University.

Niall Durkan log:

Niall Durkan

High School:
Great Valley

Graduation Year: 2013

Position: Defense

College Choice: Colgate University

Club Affiliation: Mesa Fresh 2013

Major lacrosse honors:
Philly Showcase Gait Fab Forty, EPSLA Showcase; 2nd team All-Ches-Mont League, 2011

Academic honors: Honor roll recipient 9th, 10th grades

What will you major in/study?
Undecided at this time, but have interest in finance

Why did you choose school?
Colgate is a great school academically. During my visit to Colgate, the coaching staff and the players made me feel very welcome. Colgate has a strong lacrosse program and play a tough schedule, which was important to me. I was able to see them play in the recent HEADstrong event (Nick Colleluori Classic), and was impressed with their style of play. The campus is great, and playing in the Patriot League will allow my family to watch a lot of my games.”

What is your HS team’s outlook for next year?
“I feel we are well positioned to compete for the Ches-Mont title. We bring back a strong core of players that are dedicated to working hard on the field and going deep into the playoffs.”

Other comments: I would like to thank Coach (Tony) Verna and Coach (Billy) Cordts from Great Valley. I also wanted to thank (Mesa) Coach (John) Sims, Mr. (Kevin) Rudd, Mr. (Bruce) Ikeda, Mr. (Pat) Campbell and Brian Ikeda for all their support and guidance throughout the recruiting.”
