Duxbury (Mass.) High junior goalie Henry Buonagurio has made a verbal commitment to play Division 1 lacrosse at Drexel University.
Buonagurio helped Duxbury to a 22-2 record and a berth in the Massachusetts state finals last year. He also was a key running back on a 13-0 football team that won the state crown in the fall.
Buonagurio plans to major in a business field. He said he liked Drexel coach Brian Voelker and the Philadelphia city life.
“The main thing was coach Voelker,” said Buonagurio. “He’s a great person who is leading a good program. The team is very appealing to me.”
Last year the Dragons were ranked in the Top 10 for much of the year under Voelker, who was in his first season after moving over from nearby Penn.
“I love how the campus is in the middle of the city and I love the area,” said Buonagurio. “I love the atmosphere and Philadelphia is a great, historical city.”
Buonagurio plays club lacrosse for Laxachusetts.
Buonagurio is one of nine players on his high school team to commit to a Division I or III school. Duxbury won the Massachusetts state title (private schools) in 2009 and last year finished 34th in the final LaxPower Coaches/Computer Ratings.
Buonagurio is thinking big for his junior season: “We are expecting to win it all again, are expectations are really high.”
