Seniors Blaise Fullen (Penn Charter), Roman Lao-Gosney and Cameron Lao-Gosney have been named Lehigh men’s lacrosse captains, as announced by Lacrosse Coach Kevin Cassese on Thursday. Each has been integral to the Mountain Hawks’ recent success which saw them advance to their first Patriot League Tournament since 2006 last season.

“It is a great honor for me to introduce three outstanding young men as tri-captains for the 2011-12 campaign,” said Cassese. “Roman Lao-Gosney, Cameron Lao-Gosney, and Blaise Fullen have emerged as tremendous leaders for our program. Overall, these three seniors have consistently set high standards for themselves and for their teammates, and they have had an incredibly positive influence on everyone involved with the Lehigh Lacrosse Program.”

Fullen has made an impact from day one, starting 11 games as a freshman and 14 as a sophomore before playing in all 16 games a season ago. He has played both close defense and long-stick midfield in his career, making an impact all over the field. Fullen finished last season with 10 groundballs and four caused turnovers to up his career totals to 41 and 23, respectively.

“Blaise Fullen is a living, breathing representation of everything we strive to be as a lacrosse program,” said Cassese. “He is hard-working, loyal, confident, selfless, and flat out tough as nails. Everyone knows exactly what to expect from Blaise. And that is 100 percent, 100 percent of the time.”

Roman Lao-Gosney enjoyed a strong season running on the first-line midfield last season, scoring 12 goals while adding three assists as one of nine Mountain Hawks to eclipse double-digit points. He came on as the season progressed, scoring a goal in six straight games beginning with his first-career hat trick against Binghamton and running through a Senior Night win over archrival Lafayette.

Cameron Lao-Gosney has played both midfield and attack in his career as one of the team’s most prolific goal-scorers. After finishing third on the team in goals and points in 2010, he improved in all categories as a junior, recording 24 goals and 11 assists good for 35 points. He finished the season on a 14-game point streak and seven-game goal streak, posting eight multi-goal games and two hat tricks on the season.

“Roman and Cameron (affectionately known as ‘the twins’) were my very first commitments in the recruiting process when I got the job here at Lehigh in the summer of 2007,” said Cassese. “It has been an absolute pleasure working with them and watching them grow from boys to men on the field, off the field and in the game of life.”

The Mountain Hawks open their 2012 season on Feb. 11 when they travel to Saint Joseph’s to face former assistant coach Taylor Wray and his Saint Joseph’s Hawks. Lehigh opens its home slate the following Saturday against defending NCAA Tournament qualifier Villanova. That marks the first of four 2011 NCAA Tournament teams the Mountain Hawks will face.
