The Lehigh University men’s lacrosse program has announced it will hold three camps this summer.
Included in the camp programming is the return of the Lehigh Valley Showcase, a huge success in its first year. The Showcase is a boys’ recruiting event and three-day skills camp for rising juniors and seniors.
“We are very excited to announce this summer’s camp line-up,” Mountain Hawks head coach Kevin Cassese said. “This is a great opportunity for player from the Lehigh Valley and across the country to be a part of the Lehigh program. They have the opportunity to learn and grow as athletes while working with Lehigh players and coaches, as well as other coaches from across the nation.”
The following is a listing of the Lehigh Showcase and camps for 2011:
The Lehigh Valley Showcase
July 26-28, 2011 at Lehigh’s Bethlehem campus, will feature three days of advanced training, games, instructional combine and seminars, culminated by the all-star showcase on the final day. The camp will be run by Lehigh coaches and players with assistance from college coaches. Camp will feature no more than 200 participants.
Campers will stay at the Lehigh dorms. All sessions of the Showcase will be filmed and made available to participants for personal use following the event. Campers also will receive printouts on strength and speed training combine activities such as the 40-yard dash, bench press and the vertical leap.
Each camper will play in at least six games during the camp. Seminars will be held for recruiting/academics, and leadership/character building. Many college coaches at the Division I, II and III level attend the All-Star Showcase and also serve as instructors. The All-Star Showcase will be held July 28th at 4:30 p.m.
The camp will be co-directed by Lehigh coach Kevin Cassese (captain of World champion US National team and formerly of Philadelphia Barrage) and assistants Brendan Callahan and Taylor Wray (Philadelphia Wings defenseman/captain and assistant coach for Canadian National team).
Callahan, the event coordinator, said the purpose of the camp is to help campers gain visibility within the recruiting landscape, while helping them grow as players and as people.
“With this showcase, Lehigh Valley and Philly kids don’t have to go to New York or Baltimore to get seen in the summer,” said Callahan. “This is meant to help the lacrosse community grow in our region.”
“Not only is this camp good for kids interested in Lehigh, with coaches in attendance last summer from schools like Loyola, Georgetown, Dickinson, Haverford, Washington College it was a chance to be seen by some of the best around the country. And for the campers, there is so much more than just competing in a showcase. They will get skills training and go to some excellent seminars. At the end of the day they’ll have something to take with them to help in their recruiting process.”
