Inside Lacrosse online rated Penn State at No. 31 and Penn at No. 32 in its men’s Division I college rankings.
Mentioned for Penn State, under first year coach Jeff Tambroni, are junior attackman Matt Mackrides (Malvern Prep), senior defenseman Matt Bernier (Malvern prep) and sophomore midfielder Nick Dolik. Also noted as a player to watch is freshman goalie Austin Kaut (Springfield-Delco), the Co-Player of the Year last season as named by Phillylacrosse.com. The Lions went 2-11 last year, but are expected to make great improvements in the Colonial Athletic Association.
The Quakers, coached by second-year mentor Mike Murphy, also look to improve after a 5-8 season in the Ivy League (1-5 in conference play). The players highlighted were senior attackman Corey Winkoff (18 goals), junior midfielder Dan Savage (16G), senior midfielder Al Kohart (21G), junior goaltender Joe Hegener, senior defenseman Brett Hughes, and sophomore defenseman Alex Bement. Senior Will Amling, a 6-4, 210-pound midfielder. was listed as the breakout player while freshman goalie Brian Feeney and freshman midfielder Drew Belinsky are the rookies to watch.
