Hannah Schmitt pumped in an amazing nine goals on 11 shots to power Archbishop Carroll to a 17-8 victory Friday over the 29th-ranked team in the country, Lake Brantley (Fla.), in the AmLax Lacrosse Challenge at St. Petersburg, Fla.
The Patriots (1-0) will face Florida power Vero Beach today at noon in St. Petersburg. Vero Beach (10-0) is ranked No. 12 in the ESPN RISE Powerade Fab 50 while Carroll is No. 32. Lake Brantley had started the season at 7-0 and is now 8-1 after downing Maryland’s Holy Child, 19-5, later in the evening.
Natalie Schmitt added two goals and two assists for Carroll while Maddie Lesher had two goals and an assist. Sheila johnson, Sam Moore, Kerry Newby and Megan Santoleri each scored once.
Alissa DiBona and Maura Campbell (three groundballs) also excelled on defense and Katie Boyle made 3 saves.
